The UFC held their weigh-ins for UFC 98 today at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event features a UFC light heavyweight title matchup between the undefeated Loyoto Machida and the also unbeaten UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans. Evans, a much improved striker in recent years will have to contend with the ever illusive karate expert Machida. The two have created names for themselves with Evans defeating the likes of Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffen, and Machida over Tito Ortiz and Thiago Silva. Only one will walk away with their unblemished record in tact as well as the UFC light heavyweight strap. “It don't bother me at all,” said Evans regarding his status as the underdog. “I go out there and try to put on a good fight, and do what I've got to do and leave it all out there. That's all that's important.” “I trained very hard for this fight. I'm very calm,” Machida stated. “I don't worry about his technique. I don't worry. I just worry with my technique. Please cheer for me tomorrow night.” Also slated on the card is one of the biggest grudge matches in the organizations standing between former UFC welterweight champions Matt Hughes and Matt Serra. Although both are equally amped to have the opportunity to face off in the cage, the two men will have to overcome a bit of ring-rust in the process. Hughes will be coming of an eleven month layoff, while Serra will enter the bout without a fight in thirteen months due to a reoccurring back injury. The UFC announced that Mike Pyle will be a last minute replacement for former WEC fighter Brock Larson. Pyle was not on the scale at the weigh-ins, although he is expected to make weight to face Larson Saturday evening. UFC Light Heavyweight Championship Main Event Main Card Under Card |
