AFFLICTION CARD ANNOUNCED FOR LAS VEGAS. By Brian O'Hara
Executive Vice President and Special Council to Donald Trump, Michael Cohen, announced during the Affliction Press conference in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Planet Hollywood Casino that Tito Ortiz has not signed with the upstart MMA organization. The announcement put to rest the whirlwind of rumors regarding Tito Ortiz’s affiliation with Affliction, however the announcement left the door cracked for a possible future relationship between Ortiz and the brand.

“I want to address the rumor that has been circulating throughout the Internet. The rumor deals with the signing of Tito Ortiz. I say rumor today because that is all that it is. Fans clearly believe, and so do I, that this would be the best place for Tito Ortiz to fight and to showcase his amazing talents,” Cohen said on behalf of the Affliction ownership.

Cohen also aid that they are very aware of the UFC’s stronghold on the Vegas MMA scene. He gave a less than threatening explanation on the choice to hold the second event on Zuffa, LLC. stomping grounds.

“We’re not doing it to take on the UFC. We’re not doing it to battle the UFC. We’re not doing it here because it’s the backyard of the UFC. We’re doing it because this is where there’s substantial mixed martial arts fans. It’s an area that needs to see Affliction entertainment. It’s an area that needs to see Donald Trump’s involvement in Affliction entertainment,” Cohen said.

Affliction Vice President and front man, Tom Atencio, also addressed the presence of the company in Las Vegas.

“It’s the home of the UFC and it’s the reason why the WEC holds their events here as well; so to me it males sense. On October 11, it won’t get much better than this.”

Affliction ownership also announced the signing of International Fight League phenomenon Chris Horodecki at the conference. Horodecki has yet to be named an opponent, but was said to be fighting in the lineup.

The winner of the much anticipated Affliction heavyweight match up between Andrei “The Pit-bull” Arlovski and Josh Barnett means that the winner secures a spot to face MMA legend, Fedor Emelianeko for the WAMMA crown.

Arlovski was not in attendance as he is in Japan on the USO tour. Barnett did enough speaking for the both of them however, while mixing in a few imposing statements towards the former UFC champ.

“Arlovski is in front of me right now and it’s great that I have the opportunity to parlay my last knockout into this next fight. I’m not making predictions on whether I’m knocking anybody out or if I’m going to submit him. The one thing I can guarantee is that put a tag on his toe because he’s done.”

Barnett continued his rant.

“I have destroyed whoever is in front of me. It’s the only thing I live for and the only thing I enjoy going out there and doing it for; to wreck my opponents and leave them behind me wishing that they never stepped into that ring with me. Bottom line.”

Headlining the under card is a heavyweight clash between MMA veteran, Paul Buentello, and (formerly) IFL Heavyweight Champion, Roy Nelson. Nicknamed “Big Country”, Nelson is a man’s fighter and perhaps a crowd favorite in the match.

“People can relate to me because I look like seventy five percent of the rest of America.”

Nelson was as personable in his fight prediction as that seventy five percent of Americans that h spoke of.

“Every prediction is always a win; as fast as I can. If he hurts himself, stubs his toe then I’ll take the win. I’m always there to put on a good show and leave it all out there. May the best man win,” Nelson said in his typically courteous tone.

Buentello on the other hand knows that Nelson may look and act like most people, however he can hit harder than ninety nine percent of them. That makes him a dangerous opponent for the older Buentello.

“He has the same style as Big Daddy Goodwrench, but more aggressive, straight forward and big hands. He doesn’t kick much, but he brings the hands.”

Buentello knows that he needs to perform stronger than his last outing in order to come away with a victory on October 11.

“I hate dragging stuff out. Just this last fight, I fought Big Daddy Goodwrench, you know, from one to ten I give myself a about a five and a half. I should have done a lot more. I was hitting him everything I got, but he wouldn’t go down,” Buentello admitted.
