Josh Koscheck exclusive interview appearing
in MMA Sports magazine issue 14.
Mike: Conrgats on the Win
against Lytle.
Koscheck: Thank You.
Mike: What were your thoughts on that fight?
Koscheck: Pretty much Lytle is a tough guy, and I knew I would probably
have to Kill him to beat him. He is a good quality opponent and is tough.
Mike: Did you think they
were going to stop it at some point?
Koscheck: I kind of thought they were, but I knew he would fight through
a lot more then that…he is tough to finish, and doesn’t quit.
Mike: How’s training going?
Koscheck: Good. Can’t complain.
Mike: Anyone in particular
you want to fight?
Koscheck: Anyone, it pretty much comes down to me. Making money and
becoming a champion. So I will fight whoever they put in front of me.
Mike: How did you get
into MMA?
Koscheck: Well I wrestled in HS/College and have really been wrestling
for about 25 years now. I was coaching at Buffalo and I met Bob Cook
and Dewayne Zinkin in LW and they told me I should quit wrestling and
start fighting. I moved out to Cali in like 2004 and started training.
Mike: And what has been
your most memorable moment so far?
Koscheck: Well I think it’s more just the career, then a single moment.
It been a fun ride so far, and I am just excited about everything I
have been able to do. And to fight in front of millions of people.
Mike: Can you tell us
a little bit about your clothing line?
Koscheck: Yeah, it’s Mar Clothing, a Cali lifestyle type line. I have
been working on it for like 3 years now, and its really really growing
fast. You know, it’s a fun project and something I want to be able to
look back on and be proud of. I hope I can do as well in this as I can
in my fight career. The plan is to be able to grow to the point that
I can give back and sponsor as many fighters, surfers, skaters and moto
guys as I can.
Mike: Sounds like a plan. What where your thoughts
on the Fitch/GSP fight?
Koshceck: Obviously Jon Fitch is a good friend of mine and a training
partner. And I didn’t want to watch, after I saw him get rocked a few
times…you know, I just didn’t like seeing that. I have nothing but respect
for Fitch, he is a warrior…and he took some punishment...but I have
never seen anyone show heart like that. I think if he had 2 more rounds
he would’ve won.
Mike: Yeah, I was definitely impressed with
the heart he showed. So if they offered you a spot to coach on TUF…say
Team Koscheck vs Team Sanchez, would you be down?
Koscheck: Umm Yeah, I think so. It is what it is, and it would be more
exposure and more TV.
Mike: Lets do a little word association; I will
throw out a name of a fighter…and tell me the first thing that comes
to mind.
Koscheck:
Hughes- Tell you what I think?...umm nothing.
GSP- A fighter who tries to be a wrestler.
Diego- Did you just say something…haha.
Mike: (laughing) yeah, its cool…so if you got
to be matchmaker for a night…what’s one fight you would love to see?
Koscheck: As a fan, I would want to se Randy vs Fedor. You know, the
HW's are where it’s at. Randy’s a freak and Fedor is supposed to rule
the world. I hope they can make this happen and hopefully in the UFC.
There haven’t really been many Super Fights lately to be honest, and
this would be one for sure! So I just hope it happens and hopefully
it’s in the UFC.
Mike: Yeah that will be a good one. OK last
question, and I ask everyone this. If they made a movie about you...what
would be the title and who would play you?
Koscheck: Shoot…I don’t know. I think it would be called "Wrestler
turned Mixed Martial Artist" haha…and they would probably need
to find someone really good looking to play my part.
Mike: (laughing) alright man, anything you wanna
finish with?
Koscheck: I don’t know, just to all the fans you know…keep supporting
MMA. You guys make and support us, and we appreciate it. So just keep
watching and getting the PPVs/Shirts/Tickets. We have really loyal fans
in MMA, and thank you for that.
Mike: Ok that’s all I have got for ya, thanks.
Koscheck: Thanks for the interview.
