With his undefeated MMA record, Donald
Cerrone will get his chance to take the WEC lightweight title from Jamie
Varner on January 25th at WEC 38. Coming off a victory over "Razor"
Rob McCullough, Cerrone plans to make a short night of Jamie Varner.
Tony: How has training been, getting ready for
this fight up against Jamie Varner?
Donald: It’s going great, great, great, everything is just great.
Tony: Who are some of the guys in your camp, who
are helping you out for this fight?
Donald: Nate Marquart, Tom Watson, GSP, Rashad Evans, and Keith. I got
all the guys. They’re all here working with me for this fight.
Tony: Thoughts on your opponent Jamie?
Donald: You know he’s a really good boxer. And coming off of two recent
Knockout wins and on top of that he has his wrestling to fall back on.
So he’s going to want to take me down which plays right into my jiu-jitsu
game. He wants to box you up and create that space to ground and pound
you, but I’ll just get back on my feet.
Tony: How do you see this fighting playing out,
all five rounds or ending allot sooner?
Donald: Oh no, I don’t think this fight is going all five rounds. It’s
gonna be finished in the second round.
Tony: Since this event is a title fight, is the
pressure more compared to previous fights in the past?
Donald: I feel sick in my stomach and scared to death in every fight.
So the pressure isn’t any different at all. My friends and family are
still watching and the title is just whatever. But of course it will
be nice to win the title and become champion. It’s just another step
in my goals. But for any more added pressure because it’s a title fight,
no. |
