Mike: What have
you been up to since the last fight?
Brendan: I didn’t take much time off after my Dec. 5th fight, I got
right back to training. I traveled to Montreal with Nate Marquardt and
worked with Georges St. Pierre and the rest of the team at Tri-Star.
Just to change things up and work on some different techniques.
Mike: I quickly wanted to touch on the finale
fight with Roy Nelson, and just get your thoughts on the fight and what
you may do differently in a rematch?
Brendan: My thoughts on the fight are I came with a great game plan
and things were going really well for me until I got caught behind the
ear. Roy did a great job off capitalizing on a mistake I made and that’s
why he won. Things I would of done different would of been not getting
so excited when I had Roy against the cage, but other then that I learned
a lot from this fight and can’t wait to get back into the octagon.
Mike: What did you think of being on TUF?
Brendan: TUF for me was a great experience and a chance of a life time.
Its something I won’t ever forget and I feel that I took advantage of
the opportunity and ran with it.
Mike: I'm sure with guys like you, Big Baby,
Roy Nelson, Wes Sims, and Kimbo, there were probably some golden moments
that didn't get aired. What's one thing you hope makes the dvd extras
that wasn't aired on TV?
Brendan: I wish they would show more of Kimbo dropping knowledge on
the guys. When ever I was bored I would go talk with Kimbo or listen
to him talk to the other guys. The dude is smart and has some great
advice when it comes to girls, relationships, and just life in general.
He would sit in a chair and the rest of us would be sitting on the floor
like kids. (laughs).
Mike: Where are you training now, and who are
some of the guys preparing you for your upcoming fight?
Brendan: I train out of Denver, Colorado at the Grudge Training center
with Shane Carwin, Nate Marquardt, Eliot Marshall, Rashad Evans, Keith
Jardine, Georges St. Pierre, and Duane Ludwig. Then I’ll make trips
to New Mexico to work with Greg Jackson or he comes to Denver a lot
and I will also travel to Montreal at Tri-star. We have a great team
and always help each other out.
Mike: You will be fighting next on the first
versus show against Chase Gormley. What do you know about your opponent?
Brendan: Chase Gormley is a tough opponent with good wrestling and pretty
well rounded overall. However, I could care less who Dana White and
Joe Silva match me up against, its more about me and doing what I do
best. I feel like I can
compete with anyone in the UFC.
Mike: And how do you predict this fight will
end?
Brendan: I think this fight will end by knock out. I think I have an
advantage on the feet and plan to impose my will on him. If you can
get a KO bonus or any bonus on that Versus 1 card you’re doing something
right! That card is stacked!
Mike: The HW division is getting stacked with
young talent… is there anyone in the division you'd like to match up
with next?
Brendan: I would love to fight a Gilbert Yvel or Mirko Cro Cop, two
legends of the sport. I would be honored to compete against either one
of those guys.
Mike: Shane Carwin vs Mir... how does it end?
Brendan: Shane Carwin is going to show the world why he is the best
heavyweight in the UFC come March 27th. If you thought Brock gave Mir
an ass whooping, wait till Shane gets a hold of him.
Mike: And how does the winner do against Lesnar?
Brendan: Shane is the perfect match up for Brock. Everything Brock does
Shane does better and size will not be the deciding factor in that fight.
Shane is a big dude.
Mike: How did you get started in MMA?
Brendan: I got started in MMA by competing in Jiu-Jitsu and boxing.
My first day of training I met Shane Carwin and then just started doing
what he did and here I am.
Mike: Out of all your fights/training/sparring/etc...
what would you say is the hardest hit you ever landed?
Brendan: Hardest hit I have ever landed was probably the right hand
that dropped Marcus Jones in the Semi-finals on TUF. He was so big I
threw everything I had into the punch, it was a great feeling.
Mike: And on the other end… what's the hardest
one you've taken?
Brendan: Hardest hit I’ve ever taken is no doubt a right hand from Shane
Carwin. In practice the last 30 seconds of each round is intense, we
literally try and take each others heads off. The whole gym stops and
watches the end of our rounds. It may look cool, but you gotta figure
it’s taken at least five years off my life doing that. I love it though!
Mike: If you could see one NFL player come over
into MMA for a fight, who would you wanna see give it a shot?
Brendan: Joe Klopfenstein starting tight end for the Buffalo Bills.
He trains with me in the off season and is an absolute beast. 6’7”,
270lbs. 5% body fat and is quick. I think we will start to see guys
who are athletic freaks like Joe choose MMA over football in the future.
Mike: Last one... if they made a movie about
your life, who would you want to play your part?
Brendan: I would want Dwayne Johnson "the Rock" to play my
part in a movie. I’m a huge fan of his!
Mike: Anything you'd like to add?
Brendan: I would like to thank Hitman Fight gear, Night Rider Jewelry,
Rockwell Watches, and my Manager Greg Bloom.
Mike: Thanks for your time man, good luck!
