EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW with ANTHONY JOHNSON

MMA Sports caught up with Anthony Johnson as he prepares for his rematch against Kevin Burns this weekend at The Ultimate Fighter Season 8 Finale.

Mike: How’s the eye doing?
Anthony Johnson: It’s good, I can actually see better now then before the surgery.

Mike: And you recently appealed your case (the TKO loss to Kevin Burns), but couldn’t get it over turned...why not?
Johnson: I don’t really know man, we had a meeting and they said no...I'm not tripping though, I still have my vision and you can always come back from a loss stronger.

Mike: True. So how’s training going?
Johnson: It’s going great, I'm training everyday. You know, even on the weekends. I just like to keep busy and keep training.

Mike: You get a rematch this weekend with Kevin Burns. How do you think this fight will go down?
Johnson: Well, my opinion is it isn’t gonna last long. He's coming in ready, cause he thinks he's the bad guy and has something to prove. And I always like to come in strong looking for the finish. The last fight I ended up having to go to the ground, cause I kept getting poked in the eye and couldn’t see right. So I would take him down and try and get situated, you know?

Mike: Yeah you do man. I was actually yelling at my TV, after the last fight. I just hope there aren’t any more eye pokes…actually are you allowed to wear goggles in the cage?
Johnson: (laughing) I don’t know man...but we already talked about it and if it happens again...it’s done. But he supposedly got surgery on his hand or whatever. So he shouldn’t have any reason to poke me this time.

Mike: Not to look past Burns, but is there anyone else you would like to fight at Welterweight?
Johnson: Nah, I like to just take it one step at a time. I've called people out in the past, like Diego Sanchez when I firs got in the UFC. Matt Hughes is kind of a dick (laughs) but everyone in the UFC are great fighters, they all have the talent to be a champion one day…that’s why they are here. So I am just glad to be here and will fight whoever it is they want me to fight.

Mike: Where did the nickname "Rumble" come from?
Johnson: I was just sitting around one day, thinking of a name that hasn’t been used and I thought…hey, why not "rumble"?

Mike: Cheat Food?
Johsnon: I love gummy bears!!

Mike: So what do you do, when you’re not knocking people out in the cage, or eating gummy bears (laughs)?
Johnson: I raise pitbulls! But none of that Michael Vick stuff, you know. I raise them and take them to shows and competitions...try to bring home some trophies. And I just like to spend some time with my boys, we just have a good time…but I love my pitbulls, and I don’t like to do anything without them. So I spend my free time with them. I wouldn’t trade them for the world...you know?

Mike: Sounds good man, that’s all I got for you...anything you wanna close with?
Johnson: Thanks for thinking of me for this interview. My sponsor Tapout, Iron Heart Pitbull Kennel, Ken Pavia my manager, you know everyone! All my fans! And just thanks for the support.
