Tony:
Going into this fight with Herman, did you do anything different in
your training?
Alan: Training pretty much went the same, working on my Thai clinch
and training in Thailand. I injured my knee so I couldn’t do as much
jiu-jitsu, so I was really limited on my ground training. But I definitely
worked a lot on my stand up.
Tony: You mentioned you
went over to Thailand, how did that go?
Alan: It was awesome. I was there for about a month or so. I got the
chance to train with a lot of tough guys from Thailand and other kickboxers
from around the world which really helped out. I was running twice a
day and I learned a lot of cool clinch techniques, which helped out
a lot for my fight with Herman. Overall I trained really hard in Thailand
and stayed very focused throughout the whole time I was there.
Tony: Going into the Ed
Herman fight you looked really relaxed and in complete control throughout
the fight, what was different going into this fight then the Jason day
fight, in your opinion?
Alan: As far as the training, I was physically the same. I trained for
Jason Day just like I trained for Ed. Everything was the same, I didn’t
think of each fighter any different. For me it was pretty much the mind
going into the fight. My mind was so different at that time, but for
Ed I started preparing my mind weeks out before the fight. When I fought
Jason Day, I was thinking that my mind isn’t really ready, but when
I step into the cage everything is going to go away and click for me.
The fight didn’t turn out that way obviously, but it’s all a learning
process and if you don’t start preparing your mind several days if not
weeks before the fight, you’re not gonna be ready. Your mind has to
be in the fight before it happens and for me I was mentally ready before
the Ed Herman fight.
Tony: Jason Day, Kendall
Grove or Yushin Okami. If the opportunity was presented for a rematch,
is there any particular fighter who you would like to fight again?
Alan: You know, I would like to have a rematch with all of those guys
that beat me. But, its said and done with and at this point its time
to move on. But later on if the opportunity did come up I would definitely
fight any one of them.
Tony: Anderson Silva,
do you feel you match up well against him and would you take the fight
if it was offered Alan?
Alan: Against Anderson I really don’t have anything to lose if I fight
him. I think I match up well against him as a lot of others guys do.
I’m in the right direction right now and I think I have the potential
to be the first one in the UFC who can beat him.
Tony: What can we look
forward to seeing from Alan Belcher in the future to come?
Alan: I’ll keep on improving, work more on my ground game and becoming
a world champion. I think with this Ed Herman fight who is a top guy,
we’ll just see what the UFC has to offer me next.
